Barlings is a very "green" property, with self-sustainable heating and electricity powered by logs from our forest in a biomass boiler and photovoltaic panels, plus solar pool heating. Our water comes from our mountain spring and borehole.

Our guests all enjoy exploring fantastic unspoilt, Mid Wales. They tootle off and go sight-seeing or enjoy high-adrenalin activities such as clay pigeon shooting, go-karting, paint-balling or having a go at driving a rally car. The 'Bear Grylls Survival Academy' is approximately an hour and a quarter away by car from Barlings Barn in Criccieth. They are now offering Survival Half Day courses which sound great fun and just the thing for our more adventurous Barlings guests.

This area is rich in castles and history - Powis Castle and 4,000 year old standing stones are a three quarters of an hour drive away. You can go: fishing in clean, clear rivers and lakes (salmon / trout), golf on wonderful links and challenging courses, bird watching (red kite country), walking and swimming on glorious sandy beaches (Aberdovery beach, a mere 35 minutes by car, has to be seen to be believed - miles of white gold sand and dunes - perfect for beach games and sandcastles ), sailing, sea fishing, white water rafting, horse riding ... or just relaxing under a tree in the Barlings bluebell wood with a great book!

This area is also culturally rich and you can often catch choirs or musicians performing locally or Eisteddfodau (music competitions). This is a great place for artisan crafts - artists, sculptors, wood-turners, woollen products, sheep poo paper

Centre for Alternative Energy and King Arthur's labyrynth (a big hit with boys old and young) is a 25 minute drive away.

There really is something for everyone here all set in the most glorious. uncrowded, landscape just outside the southern edge of Snowdonia National Park..

Green Credentials

Barlings is a very "green" property, with self-sustainable heating and electricity powered by our own logs in a biomass boiler and photovoltaic panels, plus solar pool heating.

That allows us to heat the pool for you with a clear conscience, and ensures that rooms are the right temperature all year round. You will love our spring water which comes from a fresh, soft spring and borehole deep inside the hillside.
